Key fob replacement and programming. Anything built in the last twenty years needs a chipped key or fob talking to the immobilizer before the engine cranks. Cutting the blade is half the job. We program to the vehicle and confirm a start before leaving. On certain late model vehicles with locked down security gateways the work genuinely has to go to a dealer, and you hear that on the phone, not after we arrive.

All keys lost. No existing copy needed. We originate from the vehicle. It takes longer than a duplicate and costs more, and you get both numbers up front.

Ignition repair and replacement. A key that has to be lifted, held at an angle, or wiggled is a worn cylinder announcing itself. Left alone it seizes, and it seizes in a lot at the end of a shift. We repair or replace on site and key it back to your existing key when the platform allows.

The residential side of Edgemoor is compact and consistent, and that consistency is useful. Much of the housing here went up in the 1940s and 1950s, built tight and built for workers, and a lot of those doors and frames are original.

Two things follow from that. First, seventy years of settling means the bolt no longer meets the strike square. What you feel is a key that has to be lifted or pushed. What is happening is the bolt dragging on the strike lip every single throw, wearing the cylinder from the inside. Replacing the lock without correcting the alignment gets you a new lock that fails the same way inside a year, and we will not do it that way.

Second, some of these doors were bored before modern hardware standards settled. If you have ever bought a deadbolt, brought it home, and found it would not seat, that is why. We carry the fillers, wraps, and boring equipment to fit a modern Grade 1 or Grade 2 deadbolt into an original door without ruining the slab.

The homes here also sit close together with short setbacks, which changes the security conversation. On a tight lot the frame matters more than the cylinder. A four screw strike plate with three inch screws into the framing behind the jamb does more for a door on a narrow lot than any lock upgrade on the shelf.

Rentals, Turnover, and Doors Nobody Has Rekeyed
